Abstract

ABSTRACT Nurul Rahmawati, NIM 1681100049. The Effectiveness of The Project-Based Learning Method in The Writing Skills of Description Text Viewed from Learning Student Motivation to learn of VII Class. Thesis. Language Education Study Program, Graduate Programme, Widya DharmaKlaten. University. 2019. This study aims to: 1) know the difference in writing description skills between students taught using the PBL method with conventional methods, 2) know the difference in writing writing skills between students who have high learning motivation and students who have low learning motivation, 3) Interaction between PjBL methods with learning motivation in achieving description writing skills. This research was conducted at SMP N 3 Bayatfrom July to August 2018 in the first semester of the 2017/2018 academic year. The population of this study was class VII students number around 210 students, the participants of this research were 60 students.This study used two learning methods: the project based learning method (PjBL) in class VII B which is the experimental group and the conventional method in class VII A which is the control group. This research is an experimental research with one group pre test and post test design research design.The technique of collecting data uses a questionnaire. The questionnaire regarding learning motivation and description writing skills was conducted on respondents before and after the learning method was given both in the experimental group and in the control group. The results shows: 1) the control group shows that the value of t count is 11,857 with a significance value < 0,05 then H1 is accepted. This means that PjBL method was more effective than conventional method for teaching writing skills of description text. 2) the control group shows that the test indicate that the chi square value is calculated at 10,823 with a significance value < 0,05 then H2 is accepted. This means that students with high learning motivation have better achievement than students with low learning motivation in teaching writing skills of description text. The results of test indicate that the interaction between the teaching method and learning motivation is 10.414 with a significance value <0.05. This means that there is an interaction between the teaching method and learning motivation towards the skills in writing description text.
