Abstract
Dewi Hajar Mukarromah, No. 1211202817, English Education Study Program, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Widya Dharma University, Klaten, 2016. Thesis: A Descriptive Study on the Mastery of Reading of the Eighth Year Students of SMP N 3 Ponjong Gunungkidul Yogyakarta in the Academic Year 2015/2016. The writer’s aim of this study is describing the students’ mastery of reading of the eighth year students of SMP N 3 Ponjong Gunungkidul Yogyakarta in the academic year 2015/2016. The description refers to the students’ mastery of reading of the eighth year students of SMP N 3 Ponjong Gunungkidul Yogyakarta in the academic year 2015/2016. In this study, the writer conducts the study by using quantitative descriptive research method to check the students’ mastery of reading of the eighth year students of SMP N 3 Ponjong Gunungkidul Yogyakarta in the academic year 2015/2016. The population of this study is the eighth year students of SMP N 3 Ponjong Gunungkidul Yogyakarta in the academic year 2015/2016. The writer takes 30 students as sample by using proportional random sampling. The writer uses test as the method to collect the data. The test is tested to the 30 students as the sample of the population. The collected data are analyzed by using quantitative research method. After analyzing the data obtained from the reading test of the eighth year students of SMP N 3 Ponjong Gunungkidul Yogyakarta in the academic year 2015/2016, the result shows that the mean of the students’ reading test is 73.5 (seventy three point five) and concluded as ‘good’ category. Finally, the writer concludes that the mastery of reading of the eighth year students of SMP N 3 Ponjong Gunungkidul Yogyakarta in the academic year 2015/2016 is good.
