Abstract

ERMA WIDYASTUTI, STUDENT NUMBER : 1211202763. English Education Study Program, Teacher Training and Education Faculty. Widya Dharma University, 2016. S-1 Thesis: A Descriptive Study on the Tenth Year Students’ Reading Mastery of SMK Negeri 4 Klaten in Academic Year of 2015/2016. This research is mainly aimed to investigate the students’ mastery in reading of the tenth year students of SMK N 4 klaten in the academic year of 2015/2016 and to give positive contribution to the English teaching and learning process of reading. The problem of thesis is “How is the mastery of reading of the tenth year students of SMK N 4 Klaten in the academic year of 2015/2016?”. In collecting the data, this study gives a test that consists 20 items in the form of multiple choices. The subject of the study is the tenth year students of SMK N 4 klaten in academic year of 2015/2016. The number of population is 336 students that are divided into 10 classes. This study takes 40 students as the sample and uses propotional random sampling. The findings show that the students who gain very good category are 2 students or 5%, good category are 9 students or 22.5%, fair category are 29 students or 72.5%, and there is no student who gain poor and fail category. The mean mark is 72 and categorized into fair category. This study concludes that the reading mastery of the tenth year students of SMK N 4 Klaten in academic year of 2015/2016 is fair.
