Abstract

FEBRIANA INDRIA RAHMATUN, NO: 1211202795, English Education Study Program, Teacher Training and Education Faculty. Widya Dharma University Klaten, 2016. Thesis: “A CASE STUDY ON TEACHING AND LEARNING SPEAKING OF THE ELEVENTH YEAR STUDENTS OF SMA N 1 CAWAS KLATEN IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2015/2016”. This thesis aims at describing the process of teaching and learning speaking to the eleventh year students of SMA N 1 Cawas Klaten in the academic year 2015/2016; describing the obstacles found in teaching and learning speaking skill to the eleventh year students of SMA N 1 Cawas Klaten in the academic year 2015/2016; describing the solutions to solve the problems that found in the teaching learning speaking of the eleventh year students of SMA N 1 Cawas Klaten in the academic year 2015/2016. The problems of the study are (1) How is the process of teaching and learning speaking of the eleventh year students of SMA N I Cawas Klaten in the academic year 2015/2016? (2) What are the obstacles found during in teaching and learning speaking of the eleventh year students of SMA N I Cawas Klaten in the academic year 2015/2016? (3) How does the English teacher solve the obstacles in teaching and learning speaking of the eleventh year students of SMA N I Cawas Klaten in the academic year 2015/2016? The researcher observes the teaching and learning directly to get the data. The data which cannot be gained by the observation are collected by having interview and documentation. So, the technique of collecting the data are observation, interview and documentation. Then the researcher does reduction of the data. Next, the researcher gives code of the data in order to make easy in analyzing the data. After that, the researcher analyzes the data by ordering the activities started from the preparation until evaluation. Finally, the researcher presents the finding of the data and gives the conclusion based on the findings. After analyzing the data, the researcher draws research findings. The researcher findings are: (1) the process of teaching and learning speaking of the eleventh year students of SMA N 1 Cawas Klaten consists of preparation, the activities in teaching and learning speaking, the material, the teaching method, the media, and the evaluation. (2) The obstacles found in teaching and learning speaking are the students were lack of vocabulary, the students had difficulties in arranging the sentence, especially in grammar. Some students had difficulty in pronouncing the word correctly. The students were still used Indonesian dialect. (3) The solutions to solve the problems that found in the teaching learning speaking are the teacher asked the students to improve their vocabulary in order to make the students more active when they are speaking. Teacher used different method for each meeting. The teacher communicates with the students of the learning model that they want to use.
