Abstract

WIWIK NUGROHO, NO: 1011202554, English Education Program, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Widya Dharma University Klaten 2014. Thesis: A Case Study On Teaching and Learning English Of The Fifth Year Students Of SD N 1 Glodogan Klaten in Academic Year 2013/2014 The problems of the study are: “How is the process of teaching and learning English pronunciation of the fifth year students of SD N 1 Glodogan Klaten in Academic Year of 2013/2014?” and “What are the problems of teaching and learning English pronunciation of the fifth year students of SD N 1 Glodogan Klten in Academic Year of 2013/2014?”. The aims of this research are: to describe the process of teaching and learning English pronunciation of the fifth year students of SD N 1 Glodogan Klaten in Academic Year of 2013/2014 and to describe about the problems of teaching and learning English of the fifth year students of SD N 1 Glodogan Klaten in Academic Year of 2013 /2014. In collecting the data, the writer uses interview, observation, and documentation. The writer observes the process of teaching and learning English pronunciation and interview the English Teacher. After getting the data, the writer analyzes the data. The steps of analyzing data which are used in this study are: reducing the data, displaying the data and drawing the conclusion based on the data. The results of the data analysis are as follows: 1) Teaching and learning English Pronunciation of the fifth year students of SD N 1 Glodogan Klaten in Academic Year of 2013/2014 is as follows: the teacher’s activities are started with expressing greeting to the students. The activity is continued with checking the students’ presence. The teacher explains the purpose of teaching and learning process which is held that day. The teacher continues the teaching and learning activities by reviewing the last lesson. The students are asked to listen carefully because she also asks them to repeat how to pronounce the words after her. After all students read the text, the teacher asks the students to do exercises. 2) the problems of teaching and learning English pronunciation of the fifth year students of SD N 1 Glodogan Klaten in Academic Year of 2013/2014 are as follows: a) The students cannot read phonetic symbols of the text which are written by the teacher on the blackboard. b) The teacher’s voice cannot be heard clearly for the students who sit in back row. c) The students cannot pronounce the text well without repeating the teacher’s voice. d) The class circumstance becomes noise because besides matching the description by themselves. e) Before the teacher gives example on pronouncing the words descriptions, the students’ pronunciation the words of descriptions the students is not good.
